Let’s Help our Hummingbirds Through the Cold Snap

🌨After sorting through all the weather alerts and school closures this morning, I sipped my coffee and looked out at the bird feeders. Then my thoughts turned to strategies for helping my hummingbird friends. I made up a fresh batch of nectar, cleaned and replaced the feeders. This time, as suggested by my blogger friend at whileIwasgardening.com, I wrapped the feeder jars in kitchen towels. I chose black, to pick up any errant solar rays that manage to penetrate our cloud cover. I was worried it might put my friends off, but they don’t seem to mind.

Do you have any tips to share?

  1. Here in Seattle, we’re 22.3F at the moment, I just thawed and refilled my h’bird feeder and wrapped it in a thick, red hand towel before hanging it outside. As we’re forecast to drop into the teens tonight, I’ll bring the feeder inside after dark.
